21 Weeks in Country
Here is a pic of Harly and I at the conference room during his recent "visit" from beyond Kirkush. Harly is a Resident Engineer from San Diego I mentioned earlier whom I hooked up with during my crash course at TAC in Winchester before coming over here. He has been in the Corps 37 years and knows a bit about how it works and how to get things done. His job is to teach/train Iraqi engineers how to build and manage construction projects on their own. As the Iraqi soldiers have been trained by our troops, so too have professionals like Harly undertaken the task of training engineers to continue on with the the re building efforts in this country after we're gone. I am very proud to count him as a dear friend and citizen soldier. I can't wait to tell yall the things this man and others have done the past few years here. The real story is how American ingenuity and unselfishness in helping others in need once again triumphs. We all have so much to be thankful for...Merry Christmas all and thanks everyone for helping the DeLeo family make it through our first Christmas without Dad. I couldn't have made it without ya....

Mathew...thank you . Hope you're doing good things to make us proud.I'll be home soon and be sure to see you when I do. Meantime, take care of your sisters ...
Erin...I miss you too and wish you the very best Christmas. Our family has so much to be thankful for. When I see you we'll talk about "why" more...
Christina...Thanks for thinking of me and my family during Christmas especially. Give my best to the kids and please don't worry about us here. Things are better than TV says. God bless...
Lisa...thanks but your 4th graders ARE the inspiration here. You can't imagine what a shot in the arm it was for these "grown men" to get these gifts after our weekly meeting last Tuesday. We know it's not necessarily the gift (although they were nice, girl...), it's the thoughts and prayers and sacrifices they and their families had made that went into it that touched us. You see it in their faces in the pics. Each one said it was special (and said so I hope in email back to you). This whole experience here in Iraq - aside from all the geopolitical reasons there are - is to show the world ONCE AGAIN (as if it didn't already know - that's another issue for later, maybe 8th grade Joe if you're reading this...LOL) who and what we as AMERICANS ARE REALLY... REALLY ALL ABOUT. If not America, then WHO in the world can or would come to FREE 27 M people from the likes of an evil person like Saddam? There's whole lot of countries in the world but none, with few exceptions would choose to spend their treasure (soldiers)here to help these MUSLIM folks get out from under this "terrorist with a title". You cannot imagine how much MOST of these folks appreciate what our boys are doing for them...just like your kids showing their appreciation for us... Soooooooooo Ms Lisa...you and your kids at ST Peters are the reason we Americans do the things we do...so they'll be able to carry on helping others after we're gone. Just between us between us girl...LOL, tell them in your own super way that helpin others is our CHRISTian legacy...and the next time they look at the cross to thank Him again for setting the example of how we should live our lives...for others ...just like HE DID FOR US...
I know I speak for the rest of these guys Lisa when I tell you we are honored to serve you, your 4th graders and the rest of the folks back home whose kindness, understanding and prayers have touched all of us and will make a big difference in the lives of these people. I may not be here to see that but your 4th graders will and they’ll always know what MERRY CHRISTMAS really, really means when they hear, “HO HO HO, Merry Christmas everyone, especially you St Peter’s 4th Graders”….
