3rd Week in Country

This has been a another fast week. Began with number of site visits and meetings with Turkish GC and staff to get up to speed on work in progress and procedural matters concerning pay requisition based on work in place and acceptable standards etc. Besides the work, got first experience with laundry and pressing uniforms. Make you happy Colette to see how domesticated I've become...Drop off laundry and pick up 24 hours later. Drop off uniforms to press shop and pick up 24 hours later! Buff's idea of domestication...LOL Rummy came on base yesterday and surprised the troops. Got in and out OK and was good for us to see him. Worked til 10 last night and started at usual 7 AM so days here become a blur. Sometimes, we lose track of whether it's Monday or Tuesday...Everyday ,seems the same except for sand storms which come up every now and then and are really something. Can't see the sun at all - just blowing light brown dust with visibility about 100 yards. Lasts from 1 to 3 days so far. The first of our 14 guys rotated back to his stateside office in Vicksburg MS yesterday. Good man and many will be leaving over next 2 months. Be down to 7 then and don't know if guys are being replaced. If not, my job reponsibilities will increase and that won't be all bad. The more the better. Means I have to work harder and more effectively...thank God for the latest tools of technology to help me keep them straight. ..

Hi Buff! Erin just told me about your blog and I've been catching up on how you are doing and what life is like in Iraq. It sounds like some great humanitarian efforts are being made and I'm sure you are proud to be a part of them. Not sure if you knew or not, but my boyfriend Brian (you met him once in Ocracoke) is half Iraqi. His mother is from Baghdad, so he will be definitely be interested in hearing about your journey as well. Hope you continue to do well and work hard and know that our prayers are with you. Love, Amy Henke P.S. - I love the camo picture!

Hey- I just found the right blog- good to hear your doing well, keep the faith brother!! Tim

LOL Thanks Amy. Good hearin from ya. Everythin OK here and movin (albeit slowly) in the right direction. Local nationals are really a courageous bunch. They're riskin everything just to come on base daily to work with us and learn a trade along the way. We lost 4 last week because their fams were killed while they were at work here! Their Freedoms (like ours)aren't coming FREE either. In time and with the dedication of their leaders (as our leaders in 1775 til now perseverred) they'll be fine too. Between here and there however, it will be a rough ride! It will take courage, perseverance, and an inherent intuitive feeling that ALL MEN ARE REALLY CREATED EQUAL and WILL NATURALLY PURSUE (at any cost)the rite to be left friggin alone ....to pursue their own way to the grave - like the rest of US EQUAL PEOPLE FROM THE STATES (soldiers/civilians) WHO ARE RISKING LIFE AND LIMB TO HELP OTHERS "GET IT" ETC. Tell your boyfriends Mom, one day she can go home and be dam proud of what her neighbors et al have accomplished (with a little bit of help from their friends) LOL God bless Amy and thanks again for your prayers.

Thank you Timbo...keep those sweet cords of yours in shape til I get back! LOL God bless.

Way to go Erin. Sounds like a plan. Take it 1 step at a time and 2 years or so from now you'll be through and so happy it's finally over. Believe, I know the feeling...Keep in touch. I'm so proud of you. God bless. Dad

We have been out of town since you left Buff, so we are just getting caught up on all your blogging. What a wonderful way for you to keep up with family and friends. Please know that you are much in our prayers. We are proud of what you are doing. What a blessing for us to know someone who is doing something so wonderful. You truly are a good man. Sounds like your girls are missing you - glad you can communicate like this with them. God bless you!

Thanks Elaine and thanks for being there for my family. You and Joe are very special people and we're all blessed to have you both in our parish. Give my best to Joe and tell him I'm always available to tell his History class "the rest of the story" the media doesn't tell ya when I come home...besides it will give him a break every now and then...LOL God bless. Buff
